Knitting To Take My Mind Off It

Yesterday I learned that my mother is in the hospital and has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. The prognosis isn't very good at all.

I am very worried about her, and depressed about the whole thing. I really feel for her as this is the 4th time she has had to deal with cancer, each time worse than the time before. The last time they had to remove her larynx.

It's especially frustrating for me because I am out here on the road, far away from where she is, although in reality I know that if I were there I really couldn't do anything anyway.

I just trying to keep myself busy right now, knitting as much as I can to help take my mind off things. I'm just praying that when the specialist sees her on Monday that it turns out to not be as bad as they are saying.

coming out of lurkdom to wish you and your mother all the best. My mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year and I know how frustrating it feels to be so far away, even if you can't do anything. I ended up spending a fair bit of time back 'home' and like you, knitting to keep my hands busy. Take care.

Hi Knitting Guy;

So sorry to hear about your Mom. It's got to be really hard and being away doesn't help. My sympathies as you deal with this. Having siblings you get along with really helps when a parent is sick. Thinking of you.

I'm sorry to hear about your mom...
I understand what you mean as I also have a close family member dying of cancer. I have been knitting more lately, most likely to keep my mind off of it and reduce stress.

Prayers to you and your family at this difficult time.

I'm very sorry to hear of your troubles. It is hard when you are some distance away from your loved one at a time like this but I'm sure your mother knows that you are right there with her in spirit and that she is always in your thoughts.

You have the right idea though...keep knitting.

I am so sorry for your mother's illness. I know how you feel about the distance - my 88 year old mother is 1500 miles from me. Although we talk every day, it is not the same as being close.

Keep knitting - there is something comforting about the rhythm and progress of each piece. Prayers for you and her -

Been thinking about you Mason. Wish I could send you some yarn so you have plenty while keeping your mind off this very sad news.
